OLD
Wow, viewing all this on my new MacBook is disappointing. The code behind this website is very old; especially considering all of new Web 3.0 design practices, jQuery modules, HTML5 goodies and retina displays that have cropped up since I started it as a project to learn Python and web apps 6 years ago.
Now I have to add another bullet point to my New Years resolutions.

Buhl
For the last 20 or so years, Henry has been collecting photographs and sculpture containing the image of the hand as subject or playing a significant roll. Part of his 1000+ piece collection now comprises the show "Speaking With Hands".
His show had just opened that day and he joined us for drinks later in the evening, then slipped out the door, having picked up the tab.

Fire ze Missiles!
I'm about to get on a plane bound for Taiwan with this little add-on for our Zoetrope. Wish me luck.

8 Quarts
of oil were expeditiously pumped out of my engine and onto the 880 freeway last night on my way out of town, putting a damper on my plans for the week. The last two drops can be seen here, hanging on to the front differential for dear life.
This, after spending a small fortune and two weeks waiting for the engine to be overhauled. Awesome.

Taipei : Day Three
OK. I should probably write something about this place now:
It is hot. Wet hot. My boot cut jeans that are a bit slim in the thigh were not the pants to bring. I'm actually looking forward to changing into my suit for the show opening, just to have some breathing room down there.
Scooters are everywhere (awesome). The newspaper is obviously state run (not so awesome)... they should just stick to making beer (state run too, and not bad).
And for all of you wondering what I'm doing here... you can read all about it here.

MTY : Day Eight
Thursday night was our private opening, followed by the best sushi I've ever had, ever... and yes, it was landlocked in Monterrey Mexcio, not in some fish market in Tokyo. Still trying to find the name and a map to the place.

Habita : Pool Bar
Spent yesterday evening in the pool bar, which is brilliant, as our british friends would say. Only thing missing here is the continuous drone of downtempo beats, so turn this on and then come back and view it again.
UPDATE: This panorama seems to be a weird size for my publishing scripts. If for some reason you can't see this on the individual entry page, go to the main page and view it there.

MTY Approach
On approach to MTY over the Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range, not to be confused with the Sierra Madre Occidental, the Sierra Madre de Oaxaca, Sierra Madre del Sur or the Sierra Madre de Chiapas, all of which are also in Mexico.

Lefse Party
In what is becoming an Otmar / Annereau family tradition in recent years... Lefse was made and consumed on the day after Christmas. My favorite.

California Stars
I'd like to dream
My troubles all away
On a bed of California stars
Jump up from my starbed
Make another day
Underneath my California stars
They hang like grapes
On vines that shine
And warm the lovers' glass
Like friendly wine
So I'd give this world
Just to dream a dream with you
On our bed of California stars

The Schnittmeisters
Last night a bunch of my co-workers played a benefit show at Sweetwater Station to raise money for Mitch's emergency heart surgery.
That's him with the target on his chest... an appropriate shirt I thought, all things considered.

Expedition '96
Robert Louis Stevenson School Wilderness Expedition '96. Ventana Wilderness.
Back in the days before satellite-phones, parents that really knew what they were sending their kid off to, and attentive insurance companies. Good times.
I still can't feel most of my left big toe.
Not exactly sure how I ended up with some of these shots. Some I took and some I didn't.

Fay
If you know this man, you probably also know why he doesn't look very happy.
First in a series of film slides that I'm trying to archive. Galleries on the way.

Orrery
The adder section of the Orrery prototype for the Clock of the Long Now. An example of how building something beautiful (if only questionably practical) will get people to give you money, even if it's for a clock that will be buried in a mountain in Nevada. Just check out this list of fools who fell for it. hey wait a minute...
